My Experience at the Last-Minute Christmas Gift Craft Fair

Image
This weekend, I participated in my second craft fair, titled the Last-Minute Christmas Gift Craft Fair held at Ben Franklin Arts and Crafts store. With the holiday season in full swing and enticing store-wide promotions—a 40% off coupon and a 50% Christmas sale—I anticipated a bustling turnout. However, the day turned out slower than expected. While I made a few sales, it wasn’t quite the booming success I had hoped for.      Unlike my first craft fair, this time I felt much more prepared. I dedicated the weeks leading up to the event to crocheting more plushies than ever before, ensuring I had a variety of items to offer. Additionally, I introduced new creations that weren’t available at my last fair, hoping to capture the interest of both repeat shoppers and new customers. My display was well-organized, and I was proud of the effort I put into making everything look inviting and festive.      Though foot traffic was lighter than antici...

My First Craft Fair Experience: A Journey of Yarn, Smiles, and Surprises

After countless hours of crocheting, pricing, tagging, and setting up my booth, the day finally arrived – my very first craft fair! I was excited, nervous, and full of anticipation as I walked into the event, arms full of crochet keychains, plushies, and other handmade treasures. Here’s a recap of how it went and what I learned along the way! Setting Up the Booth Arriving early was essential; I wanted everything to be perfect! I carefully laid out each item, ensuring my crochet keychains, plushies, and especially my crochet cows looked as cute and inviting as possible. To match my logo’s nature-inspired vibe, I draped artificial hanging flowers and vines around the booth, giving it a fresh, whimsical feel. I also used small stands and baskets to add layers to the display, creating an organized yet cozy look. Seeing my vision come together with these added touches made the setup surprisingly fun! Having never done a fair before, I was unsure what to expect from customers. Would the...

Yarned and Dangerous: Surviving the First Steps of Crochet!

Image
Welcome back to my crochet journey! Today, I’m covering the must-know basics that every beginner needs to succeed in crochet. Whether you’re brand new or just brushing up, this is the perfect place to start.  I started with Bernat Blanket yarn because the larger stitches were easier to see while I practiced, and using a bigger hook was gentler on my fingers. Step 1: Gather Your Supplies Getting started with Bernat Blanket yarn is simple! You’ll just need a few essentials: Hooks:  A larger hook works best for Bernat Blanket yarn . Try a 10mm (N/P) or 12mm (O) hook to keep stitches loose and cozy.          Yarn: Bernat Blanket yarn is a bulky, soft chenille-style yarn, perfect for plush, cozy projects. Choose a color that stands out so you can easily see each stitch.                                      Scissors and Yarn Needle: These come in handy for trimming...

My Crochet Journey: How I Fell in Love with Yarn and Hook

Hello, and welcome to my crochet corner! My name’s Jenica, and I’m so happy you’re here, sharing this space with me as I dive into the world of yarn, hooks, and all the joys crochet brings to my life. To kick things off, I thought I’d share my journey with crochet and what brought me back to this beautiful craft. I started my crochet journey at 16, thanks to a friend’s grandmother who was generous enough to pass on her skills. With her guidance and patience, I learned the basics and soon started making hats and scarves. There was something so satisfying about watching a simple strand of yarn transform into something useful and cozy. It wasn’t long before crochet became my go-to hobby—one that kept me entertained and allowed me to gift little pieces of warmth to my friends and family. At 18, I joined the military, which took me on a whirlwind of new experiences and adventures. For a while, crochet took a back seat. The busy lifestyle, combined with new responsibilities, ...
