My Crochet Journey: How I Fell in Love with Yarn and Hook
Hello, and welcome to my crochet corner! My name’s Jenica, and I’m so happy you’re
here, sharing this space with me as I dive into the world of yarn, hooks, and all the joys crochet brings to my life. To kick things off, I thought I’d share my journey with crochet and what brought me back to this beautiful craft. I started my crochet journey at 16, thanks to a friend’s grandmother who was generous enough to pass on her skills. With her guidance and patience, I learned the basics and soon started making hats and scarves. There was something so satisfying about watching a simple strand of yarn transform into something useful and cozy. It wasn’t long before crochet became my go-to hobby—one that kept me entertained and allowed me to gift little pieces of warmth to my friends and family. At 18, I joined the military, which took me on a whirlwind of new experiences and adventures. For a while, crochet took a back seat. The busy lifestyle, combined with new responsibilities, made it hard to find time to pick up my hooks. Years went by without a single stitch, and I sometimes wondered if crochet was just a phase I’d left behind. Then, in 2022, my husband surprised me with a Woobles kit—a sweet reminder of a hobby I hadn’t realized I missed so much. With his encouragement, I picked up my crochet hook again, and as soon as my fingers remembered the rhythm, it was like coming home. Since then, I’ve fallen even deeper in love with crochet, especially making plushies. There’s something magical about crafting these soft, cute creations that bring joy to others. As a 26-year-old mom and part-time military member, life is busy, but crochet has become my little slice of calm and creativity. Every time I try a new project, whether it’s a plushie or an intricate pattern, I feel that spark of excitement and happiness. Seeing the finished product is always surreal—there’s that “wow, I actually made this” moment that never gets old. Plus, the joy multiplies when I see others light up over my creations. Knowing that I’ve created something that brings others happiness makes every stitch worthwhile. One of my dreams is to gain more experience by becoming a pattern tester. I’m eager to learn more about creating patterns from scratch, and I see testing patterns as a way to challenge myself and expand my crochet skills. One day, I hope to offer my own unique designs, but for now, each plushie and project is a new adventure. Thank you for being here and for sharing in my crochet journey. I hope to inspire, create, and maybe even help you along your own crochet path. If you have a story to share or a project you’re proud of, I’d love to hear about it in the comments! Let’s make this blog a happy, supportive space for all things crochet. Here’s to many more stitches, creations, and the joy of handmade treasures!
